House price inflation in England and Wales has hit its highest level for almost four years, according to new figures.
Research from Hometrack found that in March the cost of a typical home jumped by 0.8%, up from a 0.7% rise in the previous month.
It helped push the annual rate of inflation up to 6.7% – the highest year-on-year growth since June 2003.
The price of a typical home in England and Wales in March was recorded at £173,400, the latest housing survey showed.
